There were stereo modules for my 200B... Might be an interesting experiment if I find some--tho only hi/lo shelf eqs and somewhat dark-sounding. But still, might be interesting.

"clams on the half-shell, and roller skates, roller skates!"

...What an strange and ephemeral vision of the good life is encapsulated in this lyric.

I remember, even to my 8-year-old self, constantly bumping my cassette of C'est Chic, that there was this idea of luxury about Chic, with all the French titles, smooth harmonies, and tight production. Interesting to me now to think how transitory these images are. I haven't seen a clam on the half-shell served in ages! To say nothing of the roller skates, rollerskates...

And interesting to think how much labor, say, hip-hop MCs put into tracing ideas of luxury, and how ridiculous they'll probably seem a few years on.

Peece,
T. Tauri

My hopes for 2012: a members-only private club starts where those who attend must check all of their electronic gadgets after getting in, storing them in a private locker provided for that purpose. Once they are allowed inside the premises they can let themselves experience the party fully, without any distractions, interruptions and other external multi-tasking stimuli. And fully get into whatever they want to, whether it's the music, other members there or other tangible, analog things to do and savor one at a time. And always 100% fully focused on whatever it is that they might be doing.

Whisful thinking.... Rolling Eyes

We're entering the 'Ghost in the Shell' era--a part of people's brains always connected to 'the net', with only the rare few unaugmented humans left.

Just watched "Soul Power" last night. Really enjoyable film! I can't believe it took me this long to see it, considering that it's got JB and Bill Withers and Miriam Makeba and Franco & TPOK Jazz, which is a quad-fecta of some of my favorite-est favorite artists...

Wish there was more of the performances viewable. Sad

Trying to decide which is more effort: recording all my dub collection, regardless of pressing quality--less brainpower required, but more time; or selecting out the well-pressed stuff, avoiding duplicates etc--more brainpower, and maybe not any time saving?

Hmmmm... scratchchin

The added bonus of option 2 is obviously that you'll have a library of tunes you will actually bother listening to, and not just have a bunch of files stored on a hard drive...

Having a hallf-serious/half-hypothetical debate with myself on the merits of adding an Alpha Isolator to the home setup or a DJR-400.

Used a new Vestax product this weekend, DCR-1500

Have to admit I was pleasantly surprised compared to anything they've made before.

Doesn't look cheap, but it didn't feel that either. Combination of filter and isolator. Clever idea.

Well, I think I've decided that the iso would be a better purchase. Think I'd miss having pre/post selection for my auxes.

Professor Sun Ra

"In the Spring of 1971 Herman 'Sonny' Blount, aka Sun Ra, was artist-in-residence at the University of Califonia at Berkeley, where he offered a lecture course, variably described as African-American Studies 198, “The Black Man in the Universe”, or “The Black Man In the Cosmos,” or perhaps it was AAS 171. Apparently there was always some confusion regarding the course, and students had difficulty in picking up books from the required reading list, although one listing, The Source Book of Man’s Life and Death (i.e, The Bible, “King James”), whose author was listed as “God”, was available from “numerous” publishers.

Supposedly enrollment was sparse, but the classes filled up anyway as folks wandered in off the streets, and Berkeley back then (and perhaps now) didn’t mind civilian walk-ins. Ra would lecture for the first part of the class, then treat everybody to keyboard solos, or perhaps Arkestra performances for the second half.

Pencils sharpened? Here’s what’s believed to be the sole existing recording of one of those lectures:"

Rest in Peace, Steve Jobs.

As a musician, I've had a Mac at the heart of my studio for so long, I take it for granted pretty easily, but it's quite amazing what having one there has allowed me to do over the years.

Others can offer encomiums to Apple's general world-changing steelo, but for me (some tendencies towards proprietary standards aside), it's all the amazing things that Apple has done for music-making that define its place in my heart.

And... I'm not sure how I would've made it through my son's first months without the arsenal of Netflix, Sudoku, Kindle books and web-surfing on my iPhone. Smile

Really in the mood to find some Blaze-y vocal "soulful house" that moves me, but having the hardest time doing so!

Took a tour of some top 10s over at Traxsource, for instance, and it felt like listening to a car spinning wheels in the mud... Lots of same ol' same ol'. Not really wanting the wheel reinvented, but still... conf44

(Kenny Dope's "Be Your Freak" is good, though!)
