LABEL OF THE WEEK: STRICTLY RHYTHM

Think soul, think Motown. Think blues, think Chess Records. Think jazz, think Blue Note. Think house, think Strictly Rhythm. House labels come and go, yet while Strictly Rhythm isn’t the be-all and end-all of house music imprints it's fair to say that no other single label has had such an influence on the development of house music as Strictly. We're talking about the stable that launched the careers of, among others, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Armand Van Helden, Kenny Dope, Josh Wink...damn it, pretty much most of the names we today consider to be at the top of the house music tree.

Just look through their back catalogue and you will be amazed at how many big tracks that they put out. Over the next month or so ClickGroove will be adding more and more classic material as well as featuring the new releases that the label have on the way. We have put together a little taster for you this week but there are plenty more big joints to come!

Check out these releases:

Aly-Us - Follow Me

Phunkie Souls - Tha Music

Photon Inc. - Generate Power

Black Magic - Freedom (Make It Funky)

Wink - Higher State of Consciousness

CLICKGROOVE LIVE RECOMMENDS:

1ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION @ THE KOMEDIA, 44 GARDNER ST, BRIGHTON, UK

OMAR LIVE

That’s right folks. Having announced their arrival with a boom back in February 2006 Basement Soul stand tall one year later. Their continuing aim: to bring the best in future soul, classic grooves and basement beats across the board to the soul music community. Week upon week of smiling faces and fast feet have confirmed both their passion and the people’s demand for BASEMENT SOUL. So what better way to start 2007 than to go all the way live, with the original London soul boy Omar plus supertight band working up anything from classic Talkin Loud sounds (There’s Nothing Like This) to the platinum currency of Sing (If You Want It).

Stepping into tomorrow, we’ve also got the creative force of nature that is Andreya Triana plus Other Brothers Greymatter (Wolf Eyes) and Phat Kev (twice DMC finalist) show you how to work four turntables and move the crowd while DJs AmAr Patel and Simon See set the tone to build the vibe. Come join Basement Soul & ClickGroove for a night of hot beats & cold beers!

Upstairs open 8.30pm. Show 9pm. Tickets £13.50 in advance (or £15 on the door)

available from www.komedia.co.uk.

Also:

Come join ClickGroove DJ Kelvin K (Nordic Trax, Moulton Studios) in Aberdeen (Scotland) this Saturday night (10th Feb). Kelvin will be at Club Snafu alongside ClickGroove favourites Funky Transport. It’s nippy up north but we plan to bring the heat!
