Harold Budd & Brian Eno sounds like it would work... Anything steady-state that provides a 'sonic cushion' of sorts.
Personally, I'm a little suspicious of super-ambient music.
Some years ago, a friend requested some birth mixes, and told me that a problem with that kind of ambient music is that it doesn't really give you anything to direct your focus while going through a contraction (she wanted full-on house music! though that seems rather much to me)...
Never been through it myself, but feel that concern about ambient music makes sense... I feel like Budd/Eno is relaxed, but not really joyful... doesn't necessarily rouse the love feeling? Motown has come back as a consistent choice, and I feel like something such as Marvin Gaye/Kim Weston doing "Baby Say Yes" seems like the good vibe... Relaxing, but the spirit still soars.
I used some CD's from the Cafe Del Mar series for our first born. This was only during early labour as your attention is quickly taken away by the commotion of the delivery. I also turned up the volume to lessen the impact of screaming from another woman giving birth, ahh the joys of child birth.
